The 5 best pop albums coming out this summer

Plus 3 already on repeat.

It’s May, and you know what that means: swapping jeans for shorts, sweaters for crop tops, and boots for sandals.

It also means the music scene is about to be hit with a slew of new albums. Every time I think I’m at capacity for anticipation, another one of my faves drops a single and a album announcement. (Don’t even get me started on concert tours.)

Here’s my round-up of the top 5 albums I can’t wait to have on repeat after they make their debut this summer. (All release dates are from iTunes.)

Christina Aguilera, Liberation

June 15

I went on iTunes the other to buy some songs from the upcoming 5SOS album (more on that later) and my jaw DROPPED when I saw a new single from Xtina! The woman, the queen, the legend. I haven’t listened to the first single, “Accelerate,” yet (I’m a bad music blogger, sue me), but there’s a Demi Lovato collab listed on the album (“Fall In Love”) so you know this will be good. I’m giddy already just thinking about hearing these two queens belt it out together.

Panic! At The Disco, Pray for The Wicked

June 22

Does Brendon Urie ever get tired? It sure doesn’t seem like it. If the album’s first roaring single and (epic video) “Say Amen (Saturday Night)” is any indication, this will be another amazing installment to the Panic! library. And there’s a track called “Roaring 20s” which by the name alone I already know is going to be amazing. I had this album pre-ordered within minutes from when it was announced.

5 Seconds of Summer, Youngblood

June 22

These four lads have come a long way. They’ve successfully outgrown their “opening act for One Direction” label and solidified their status as a uniquely talented pop-grunge band. The first single “Want You Back” made me slightly emotional because the simple yet rocking beat and forlorn lyrics brought me major 1D vibes (like what they would sound like if they were still together), but it’s still a fun pop track. It’s the second single and the album’s title track, “Youngblood,” that really blew me away. I’m assuming it’s Luke’s vocals doing the heavy lifting, and his notes alone are enough to show that the band’s grown up in the best possible way. My computer is clearly going to get quite the downloading workout on June 22.

The Vamps, Night & Day (Day Edition)

July 13

This pop band sure has gotten a lot of mileage out of a single idea. (Their last album was Night & Day: Night Edition.) Nonetheless, The Vamps are one of the most underrated pop bands in my opinion. “Hair Too Long” has been on repeat the last four days and is straight-up embarrassing to listen to at the gym because of how it will make you want to dance. I’m excited to hear another installment by this fun, harmless pop band who seems to have remarkable staying power despite their lack of household-name status (see: the aforementioned 1D).

Ariana Grande, Sweetener

Unknown

The modern-day princess of pop made waves with a seemingly thorough social-media campaign for first single “No Tears Left To Cry,” and fans (including myself) ate it up. Ari never disappoints; I still bop her existing albums start-to-finish. I can’t wait to see what she cooks up for her diehard fans next, and I can only hope we won’t have to wait too long.

For good measure, here are the three albums I’ve already had on repeat this year.

Fall Out Boy, Mania

Standouts: “Wilson (Expensive Mistakes),” “Young and Menace.”

The Weeknd, My Dear Melancholy

Standouts: “Call Out My Name,” “Privilege.”

Various artists, Elton John tribute Revamp & Restoration

Standouts: “Your Song,” “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me.” (Read my full review of this album here.)
